I got inspired by these photos because I like the colors and how they express a lot of emotion through them. I like how in the flower ones the colors throughout the image complement each other which is something I want to play with. I also want to experiment with props like the newspapers, flowers, and books. I think these items reflect who the person is which is what I want to do. I also like to play with lighting and how it affects the way the person looks. I like to show empowerment within people and that is why I like to show masculinity with a more feminine view. I got these photos on Pinterest and the photographers are unknown.

Artist Research:
Man Ray- His art was a span of paintings, photography, and sculptures. His style of work is described as surrealism and dadaism. I love his work because the women that he photographs has such a stern look to them. There is so much emotion and beauty in the women not smiling.
Nan Goldin- Her art medium is photography. Her style is described as documentary photography. This work inspires me because I love how she captures real moments that give a real feeling. You can feel the passion in her photography.
Neil Leifer- He is a photographer and film maker. His style is described as transfer print and archival pigment print. This work inspires me because he gives images in different interesting angles which gives an emotion I would not expect to have.
Lindsay Alder- She mainly uses the medium of photography to do fashion photography and beauty. I like her work because she uses different light and shadows to give the women a classy look and emphasize their features.
René Magritte- He is a surrealistic painter. His work draws me in because it is almost like he uses it to protest and leave statements that are open to interpretation. His art uses colors to convey emotion.
Alexa Meade- She is a body painter and her medium is paint and flesh. Her work draws me in because it is not a usual thing to see the canvas be someone’s skin but I feel as if it adds a story.
Sam Greg- He is a documentary photographer. His work has a nostalgic look to it which makes it feel like home and gives it a more real connection.
Milena Villalon- She is a life framer photographer where she captures real life scenarios in an image. I love her photography because she tries to embrace a normal life situation with an artistic aesthetic.
Steve McCurry- He is a photojournalist and does contemporary art. His images draw me in because of the vivid colors and the emotionless expressions.
Dorthea Lange- Her art is photography, and she does self-portraits and documentary art. I love her images because they are odd, like a tourist taking a picture of a new city. She expresses the busy feeling of the city through her art which I like.
Surrealism:
A surrealism artist that inspires me is René Magritte. One of his works is Attempting the Impossible painted in 1928 in Paris. I think this artwork is meant to show how women are treated as objects. It shows how men tried to control women and how they look by painting them and creating their own human hence the name, attempting the impossible. In the image the man is painting the women, but she is naked which can signify that her physical appearance is more valuable to the man painting her.
My Surrealism Art:
It still needs a little working on 🙂
Read and Write Review
- An aperture is where the light travels which is usually a hole. A shutter speed is how fast the camera allows light in. An ISO is how much is a camera sensitive to light.
- The ISO should be changed when the light changes. It depends how bright an area is for instance, if there is sunlight then you would need a smaller ISO.
- Aperture and shutter priority settings is when you choose the depth of field and blur in the image since you have control over the settings.
- AF modes are the different focus modes on a camera. One shot will lock its focus on an object and won’t refocus until you move the camera. AI servo mode will constantly refocus, so it is good for sports photography.
- You would want to meter the light because it would help you get the best shot based off of the lighting in the image.
- A wide-angle lens allows a person to get a wider shot while a telephoto allows a person to get a closer shot of an object because it magnifies it. A normal lens is good for an everyday use with an object that doesn’t require special needs.
- A white balance is when a camera automatically adds the opposite colors to an image to balance the view of it as a way of attempting to make the picture appear more neutral.
- The depth of field is the area in the image that looks sharp. In a shallow depth of field, the image is the focus while the background is blurred. In a good depth of field everything looks sharp and noticeable in the image.
- Drive mode are the different type of shooting modes in a camera. They serve as different focuses such as for portrait, one frame, or even sports. A meter mode reads how much light exposure is in the image.
- The exposure compensation allows you to control the amount of light exposure in an image.
